the compact

for some people recycling isnt enough.

a group of people in bay area decided to stretch it even more. they vowed not buy anything new in 2006 except for food, health and safety items and underwear. instead, they would look for alternative ways to get the stuff they want from thrift shops, craigslist, freecycle.org, eBay and flea markets, as long as the items are secondhand (reminds me of my mom).

the compact -- named after the revolutionary credo of the mayflower pilgrims -- proved immensely popular and quickly increased its membership.

although, a popular term for this behavior is called 'cheap', i rather apploud one of the member who was on cnn not to long ago when asked about the reason why they would do this. she simply replies that this way she can donate more to her select charities.

you can say whatever about america. but here is the most generous country/people in the world. not oprah, not bill gates, nor any kind of charity foundation. but the people, the regular john and jane doe.

god bless america
